The Society focuses on all aspects of our county’s history and works to protect our heritage and historic environment. So historic buildings and ancient churches, documentary research and the landscapes of the past, local history – as well as archaeology and fieldwork – all are within our remit.
And we’re just as concerned about the present as the past: our members were active in assessing the impact that the HS2 high-speed rail line would have on the county’s historic buildings and landscapes.
We were formed in 1848, over 170 years ago.
