Saturday October 10th 2026 14:00: Maids Moreton, a North Buckinghamshire village

Maids Moreton is adjacent to and often overshadowed by Buckingham and Stowe. It stands out in Domesday Book as one of the few estates where an Englishman retained his land. It also features in the Hundred Rolls of 1279 when a large estate belonged to John Peover, whose family are credited with re-building the fine Perpendicular church there. Much of the land was later owned by All Souls College, whose 1595 map of the parish is a cartographical masterpiece. Comparing this map with the 1803 Maids Moreton enclosure map gives us a valuable insight into the evolution of the present-day North Buckinghamshire landscape.
